Trans-Antarctic-Expeditions (TAE) Hut, Condition 2

TAE also known as Hillary Hut

Inside the TAE hut – kitchen/lounge area

The TAE hut was the first of Scott Base, and it has been restored and maintained as an Historic Monument. Some of the artefacts displayed in the building date back to use from 1957, including some of Sir Ed Hillary’s gear. We needed to be taken in by a guide the first time, but thereafter you can go in anytime, and there is one lounge area that you can spend time in doing work where the other rooms are for looking only.

Condition 2 is the weather level which means you can’t leave the Scott Base footprint. Out the window I can see snow and a reasonably strong wind, more so the wind comes in occasional strong gusts and swirls between the buildings. Visibility is also reduced and there is low distinction between the land, horizon and sky. This makes incoming flights uncertain over the next few days as it will depend on whether the ski way can be cleared again in time once the weather clears.
